It may have been that there was a higher storage capacity phone that the parts of the phone you have came from. They probably just wanted the motherboard.

Why the fuck does anyone buy Apple products at all with the way apple treats their customers? They literally treat you like you are Apples personal ATM that they own. If you feel like saving some money and broke your iphone and say ah I will just have it repaired.
    Apple says to you:
"No, Fuck you in the ace Mr/Ms Customer. We here at apple would rather not let you repair your current Iphone, Instead we will not only charge a huge amount of money for our new iPhones, We will also make it so you cannot repair them without paying us a huge amount of money. You think you can go to some repair guy that will fix your phone on the cheap? Oh the fuck you will. We here at Apple will not be allowing you to do that. Fuck you in the ace, Mr Customer. Now bend over! Oh and you will buy our scam of a warranty care system or you will be fucked if your phone breaks!! Chaaaa CHING $$$$$"

If you buy anything Apple makes, You are getting scammed and used.
